Mustangs Open Holiday Tourney Looking Strong

Starting right where they left off last week, the Mustangs surged out to a 17-7 1st quarter lead and never looked back enroute to a 62-35 semifinal victory over a small but scrappy squad from Clarenceville.  Junior David Morrissey came off the bench early to arch in a trio of three pointers to get the host team off to a hot start.  Senior Andrew Meacham took up where Morrissey left off in the 2nd quarter, hitting three of his own triples to go with three two pointers to give him 15 at the half.  The Mustangs went to the break leading 32-17.

The fighting Orange continued their onslaught in the 3rd quarter, which was highlighted by a thundering two handed dunk from junior Nathan Kellum....bringing the rowdy crowd to their feet.  The 3rd ended with the Mustangs stretching the lead to 50-29.  The entire Mustang team played and contributed in  the final stanza, and even though the Trojans made a brief run,  the Stangs pulled even farther ahead.  The final buzzer sounded with the score 62-35.

Andrew Meacham again led all scorers with 20 points.  Nathan Kellum notched 11, Morrissey finished with 9, and Andrew Stevens chipped in 8.  All in all a great, well rounded, team victory.  Coach Todd Sander was satisfied post game: "Our guys played really hard tonight.  We still have a long way to go, but we are seeing steady   progress.  Tomorrow will be a real test."

In the other semifinal, Troy Athens defeated Saline for the right to square off against the Mustangs in Saturday Night's Championship game.  Tip off is at 7:00 in the competition gym at Northville High.  After the large and vocal crowd for Friday's semi, we expect a near sellout for the Championship.  Event organizers recommend getting to the venue early to secure a good seat.

In the Junior Varsity bracket, earlier in the evening, Northville won easily to advance to a Saturday afternoon final.
