Northville High Grad Dies at Central Michigan University

Kelly Elizabeth Markatos, 22, Northville High School graduate, died in her university apartment.

A 22-year-old woman with Northville ties died this week at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant. 

Kelly Elizabeth Markatos, a 2009 graduate of Northville High School, was found dead in her university apartment Tuesday morning, according to the Holland Sentinel

University officials said they do not suspect foul play, but the cause of death is unknown, the Sentinel reported. 

Fire and police officials received a call Tuesday morning and arrived at the West Campus Village apartment around 9:30 a.m., according to CM Life, the Central Michigan University student newspaper. Markatos was unresponsive when emergency technicians got to her, the newspaper reported. 

Markatos, of Holland, was a senior studying public relations. She recently completed an internship at Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity, a Christian ministry in Holland Township that assists people with building homes and homeownership, the Sentinel reported

She was always smiling and was a delightful person to have around, the executive director of the ministry told the Sentinel.

Markatos was the oldest child of John and Lori Markatos, of Holland, according to Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home. She is survived by her parents; her sister, Sheridan; her brother, Christopher; her grandparents: David Agate of Holland, Stephanie Fiore of Pennsylvania, MaryAnn Markatos of Holland; her great-grandmother Marty Agate of Pittsburgh; and her aunts and uncles: David Agate of Mississippi, Cathy Stannis of Pinckney, Mich., and Drake Markatos of Beverly Hills, Mich.

Visitation is 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home in Holland, and the funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday also at the funeral home with the burial at Lakewood Cemetery.
