Crime Report: 17 Trespassers Caught at Northville's Former Psychiatric Hospital From Oct. 21-24

The following information was supplied by the city of Northville Police Department and Northville Township's Public Safety Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Seven Mile property trespassers caught, cited

  • At about 9 p.m. Friday, four people were caught trespassing at the Seven Mile property, the former psychiatric hospital, according to Northville Township police. Using night vision, police spotted the four near the loading dock of the main building. The four males, all age 18 or 19, were cited on charges of trespassing and are due to appear in the 35th District Court in November.
  • Two separate groups were found trespassing at the Seven Mile property around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. According to the police report, the eight trespassers, male and female, ranged in age from 16 to 22. Seven were issued misdemeanor trespassing citations and one, a minor, was turned over to her parents. Members in one group told police they had read about the former psychiatric hospital online and wanted to see it. They are due to appear in the 35th District Court in November.
  • A group of three people, all age 34 and 35, was caught trespassing on the Seven Mile property around 6:30 p.m. Friday, according to township police reports. They were cited for trespassing and are due to appear in the 35th District Court in November.
  • On Monday, two people were spotted trespassing at the Seven Mile property. The police officer, according to the report, spotted the two and used the public address system to ask them to come toward the vehicle. They did and cooperated with police. They were both issued trespassing citations and are due to appear in the 35th District Court in November.

Golf clubs reported stolen

Sometime in the overnight hours Friday, golf clubs were stolen from a vehicle parked on the 46000 block of Tournament Drive, according to township police reports.

The owner of the car said that it may have been unlocked. No damage was reported.

Pursed reported stolen

A purse containing $5 in cash, a driver’s license and credit card was reported stolen from a car near Hill and Center streets, according to Northville Police reports.

Prescription pills were also reported stolen. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. Saturday.

Parcel left by post office reported missing

A city resident reported to police that on Oct. 18, the Postal Service left notice of a parcel on her doorstep. But when she got home, no parcel was found. The owner told police that she did not know what was in the package.

Woman caught attempting to cash fraudulent check

On Sept. 17, a woman was arrested for attempting to cash a fraudulent check at .

A teller at the Northville bank was tipped off by a suspicious transaction the woman was involved in earlier that day at a branch in Plymouth, according to the city police report. When police arrived, the officer asked the 43-year-old Highland Park woman what she was doing. She told the officer she was cashing a payroll check.

According to the report, a bank official printed out a copy of the check from earlier that day, as well as checks used by the company. The company’s checks were visibly different than the one the woman attempted to cash.

While police talked to the woman, a bank employee contacted the business owner, who said he did not know who the woman was and that all payroll was done electronically, according to the report.

The woman was arrested on a fraud charge. According to the report, she answered police questions and admitted to being paid to cash the fraudulent checks for a cut of the money.
