Crime Report: 82-Year-Old Ticketed for Shoplifting From Meijer

Senior citizen admits to shoplifting 19 items

An 82-year-old Northville man was caught shoplifting from Meijer on Dec. 19.

According to Northville Township police reports, the man told police he stole the merchandise – concealing a total of 19 items in a Meijer bag and his pockets – because “his social security money is not enough to live on.”

He is accused of stealing seven grocery/produce items, four items from electronics, seven items from hardware and one related to photography. Store security told police they also confiscated a cigarette box containing three marijuana cigarettes.

The officer wrote in the report that “he told me he does not have a medical marijuana card because he cannot afford to pay for the application.” He was cited for larceny and possession of narcotics, and released at the scene because of his age and condition, according to the police report. 

He is due to appear in the 35th District Court in January.

Car window shattered

The rear window of a vehicle parked on the 100 block of South Rogers Street was reported shattered on Dec. 17. According to city police reports, the incident happened sometime around 8:30 p.m.

Teen arrested for marijuana possession

A Northville teen was arrested on Dec. 19 after police caught them with marijuana while sitting in the Haggerty Road Kohl’s parking lot. According to the police report, two teens were in the car but the driver was arrested after she admitted that she had marijuana in the car’s center console.

The 18-year-old was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license. She posted a $100 bond and is due to appear in the 35th District Court in January.

Minivan broken into

A resident on the 44000 block of West White Pine Circle told police her minivan had been broken into.

According to township police reports, Ugg boots, a backpack and a bag of cans and bottles had been stolen. The woman told police the vehicle had been broken into several times before.

Computers reported stolen from apartment

A unit in the Harbour Village Apartments was broken into sometime between Dec. 14-18, while the renter was in the hospital, according to police reports.

A desktop and laptop computer and drill had been stolen, the renter told police. Other boxes in the apartment were in visible disarray.

License plate reported stolen

A resident on the 19000 block of Woodhill Road reported to police that his license plate had been stolen sometime prior to the evening of Dec. 16.

Accused shoplifter arrested

A 20-year-old New Boston woman was arrested on Dec. 14 after she was accused of stealing liquor from Meijer, according to township police reports.

Store security said she took two bottles of tequila, two bottles of vodka and one bottle of cognac. She was arrested, ticketed for larceny and is due to appear in the 35th District Court in January.

SUV parts reported stolen

The two center caps of an SUV were stolen while the vehicle was parked on the 39000 block of Dun Rovin Drive, according to township police reports. The owner told police it was the fourth time they had been stolen in eight months.
