Crime Report: Car Break-ins Reported, Shoplifters Caught Hiding in Grass

Here's a round-up of cases from Northville Township's Public Safety Department. They do not indicate a conviction.

The following items are from Northville Township's police reports. Check out the city's police reports on Northville Patch tomorrow.

Woman reports items stolen from car

A resident on the 46000 block of Pinehurst Circle reported that in the overnight hours of Oct. 21, her car was broken into, according to township police reports.

The woman reported to police that her car was parked in the driveway. About $25 cash, two tennis rackets valued at $400 and her son’s backpack were reported stolen.

Man attempts to steal electric toothbrush

On Nov. 1, a man was seen by Meijer store security stealing an electric toothbrush, according to township police reports.

Store security told police that the man concealed the electric toothbrush until he got to the self-checkout. That’s when, according to the police report, the 53-year-old Brighton man used the scanner to deactivate the item but did not pay for it.

He was stopped by store security, arrested soon after by township police on charges of larceny. He posted a $140 cash bond and is due to appear in the 35th District Court in late November, according to the police report.

Break-in reported at DTE substation

A portion of the gate at DTE’s substation on Haggerty Road was broken open sometime in the overnight hours of Nov. 2, according to township police reports.

The damage appeared to have been caused by a vehicle driving into it. A DTE official told police that other substations had been broken into and copper wires stolen. However, nothing was reported missing from this location, according to the police report.

Two accused shoplifters caught while hiding in grass

On Nov. 3, two 26-year-olds were arrested after they fled from Meijer, where they were accused of shoplifting.

Store security reported to township police that the pair filled a basket full of DVDs and one of them attempted to put them in her purse in the bathroom. When store security approached them outside of the store, they both ran away and hid in the grass by the Hampton Inn across the street.

A township officer found them in the grass, arrested the two on charges of larceny. They each posted $300 bail and were released.

Hubcaps reported stolen

A woman on the 18000 block of Jamestown Circle reported to township police that two of her car’s hubcaps were stolen on Oct. 4 sometime after 5 p.m.

According to the police report, the woman’s car was parked in front of her house.

BB gun damage found at Northville home

A man on the 17000 block of Rolling Woods Circle reported that sometime after midnight on Oct. 24, that someone broke the light fixture on this house. The bulb was shattered and two holes, which police wrote in the report are consistent with BBs from a BB gun, were found on the light fixture, according to the police report.

Seven Mile property trespassers arrested

Three people were caught trespassing on the Seven Mile property, the former psychiatric hospital site, on Nov. 5.

The three attempted to run away when they saw a police car but returned at an officer’s request, according to a police report. They were cited with trespassing and are due to appear in the 35th District Court in late November.
