Crime Report: Coyote Shot in Northville, Several Incidents of Car Vandalism

The following information from July 5 through July 11 was supplied by the City of Northville Police Department and Northville Township's Public Safety Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Coyote shot in city limits

City police discovered what they classified as a “sick/dying” coyote on the 47000 block of Dunsany Road on July 25, according to a police report.

The officer on hand used his .22 caliber revolver to shoot the coyote, according to the police report. The carcass was removed and transported to the Department of Public Works for disposal.

Man cited for fishing near Ford Field

A Plymouth Township man was cited for fishing without a license at the mill pond at on July 22, according to Northville city police reports.

Police saw two men with fishing poles at the pond and asked them for their fishing permits. One of the men had a current permit but one man did not. The men told police they were fishing for carp but were throwing back what they caught.

Vandalism reported

  • The rear window of a station wagon parked on the 17000 block of Cameron Drive in Northville Township was shattered on July 19, according to township police reports. Nothing appeared to be stolen. The report calls the incident a “random act.”
  • On July 18, a car parked along the 17000 block of Winchester Drive was damaged. A pellet gun was used to shoot the pack window of a car, leaving it shattered, according to the police report. It did not appear that anything was stolen.
  • A South Lyon woman whose car parked outside of Cassell’s restaurant on Seven Mile and Silver Springs roads reported to township police that the tail light was broken while she was inside. According to the police report, it appeared the damage was not done by another car but by some sort of circular item.

Man arrested for marijuana possession

On July 23, a 19-year-old Canton man was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and possession of marijuana.

Township police pulled over a man whose headlights were off around 11 p.m. According to the police report, the officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car as he talked to the driver.

The driver man told police that he had smoked marijuana earlier with his passenger, his father. Upon searching the vehicle, police reported finding 1 gram of marijuana. He was arrested and his car towed. He is due to appear in the 35th District Court in August.
