Northville man charged in two unrelated thefts

A 44-year-old Northville man was arrested for his alleged involvement in two separate thefts on Aug. 7 and Aug. 8.

On Aug. 7, a 15-year-old Northville teen reported to city police that his bike had been stolen from outside the CVS store on Griswold Street. The store’s surveillance cameras showed a man stealing the bike.

Upon further investigation, police learned the man on the tape had earlier asked about a job at CVS. They went to the man’s apartment, where they saw the man in the same clothes he had been wearing in the surveillance video.

The man eventually told police, according to the report, that he was drunk when the incident occurred and he did not remember stealing the bike.

He was charged with larceny of a bicycle and arrested on an unrelated warrant.

On Aug. 8, a man on the 200 block of Center Street said his tools had been stolen from his home. He told police that his chainsaw, which fit the description of one found at the home of the man accused of stealing the bike outside CVS, was stolen, according to the report.

Northville police got a warrant to search the man's apartment for the remainder of the tools, valued at $2,715. Inside they found the tools, bike and chainsaw, according to the report.

He was arrested and questioned about the stolen items. According to the report, he told police that he was approached by a man in Hines Park asking him if he wanted to buy the tools for $100. Later he reportedly changed his story.
