Crime Report: Seven Mile Tresspassers Caught, Shoplifter Arrested

Here are police reports from Northville Township's Public Safety Department. They do not indicate a conviction.

Bike reported stolen

A bike was reported stolen by Moraine Elementary School on June 15, according to Northville Township police reports. A woman reported that her daughter left a brand new bike by the school, unsecured, in the morning and came back after school to find it gone.

Alleged shoplifter arrested

A 59-year-old Farmington Hills man was arrested at Kohl’s on June 19 after he was caught allegedly trying to steal $725 in merchandise, according to the township police report.

According to the report: Store security saw the man steal from the cosmetics, athletic and shoe departments. He allegedly took items and placed them in a Kohl’s bag before leaving the store. When store security approached him, he “was refusing to cooperate.”

The man seemed confused, according to the report, and told officers he remembered coming into the store but could not remember leaving. He was arrested and charged with retail fraud.

Man making u-turn arrested on warrants

Police arrested a man making a u-turn after they discovered he had two outstanding warrants out of Redford, according to a township police report. The incident happened around 5 p.m. on June 16.

The 33-year-old Detroit man was released to Redford police.

Trespassers arrested at Seven Mile psychiatric hospital

Five teens, ranging from 17 to 19 years old, were arrested after police found them trespassing at the old psychiatric hospital on Seven Mile.

According to the report: an officer spotted a vehicle parked across from the property on Seven Mile and felt the car was warm to the touch. The officer called for another policeman to bring a thermal imager to detect if there were people on the property. Upon finding them, the officer asked them to stop but they fled in the other direction, where another police officer apprehended them.

The teens, all from Garden City, were arrested and charged with trespassing and obstructing police. They posted a $100 bond and now have to appear in the 35th District Court in July.
