Crime Report: Shoplifters Caught, Unlicensed Solicitors Arrested

Here are police reports from Northville Township's Public Safety Department.

Meijer employee accused of embezzlement

A 49-year-old Hartland woman was arrested on charges of embezzlement on Sept. 6.

Meijer store security told Northville Township police that the woman, a former store employee, was spotted stealing from the store. According to the police report, the woman admitted to stealing an energy drink, steaks, cat food and other merchandise. The total value of the items is $51.98.

She was released on a $200 cash bond and is due to appear in the 35th District Court in late September.

Two men arrested on charges of 'unlawful entry'

Two men were arrested after a resident on the 47000 block of Arbor Trail reported to police that they had rummaged through his storage bins.

The incident occurred on Sept. 8 around 8:33 a.m. The homeowner said the two were acting suspiciously when he approached them. They asked for directions to I-275, which the homeowner gave, according to the police report. He then recorded their license plate and called police.

Police located the two men and they were arrested on charges of “unlawful entry.”

Solicitors arrested

Township police arrested two men on Sept. 6 who they report were soliciting without a permit on Seven Mile Road.

A resident on the 47000 block of Seven Mile called police because the two were acting suspiciously, according to police reports. Police caught up with the men at a nearby resident’s home, where they were arrested.

Both had a similar citation in Troy. One of the men, a 25-year-old from Tennessee, also had a warrant out of Florida for soliciting without a permit, police say.

Accused shoplifters arrested

  • Kohl’s store security alerted township police to a shoplifter on Sept. 7, according to township police reports. The 41-year-old Romulus man refused to stop at the store but police were able to pull him over in his vehicle less than a mile away. Police said they found an eReader in his trunk, which was taken from Kohl’s, according to the police report. He was video arraigned and pleaded guilty. He was released on a $100 bond.
  • Police arrested a 58-year-old Fenton man on Sept. 12 after he attempted to steal from Meijer, according to township police reports. Police say the man admitted to police that he stole automotive oil and an LED flashlight. The items were valued at $36.97. He posted a $100 bond and was released, after being cited for larceny. He is due in the 35th District Court in late September.
