UPDATED: 2 Men Die in Head-On Collision Near Eight Mile and Napier

Update at 10:50 p.m.: Eight Mile Road is now open, according to a Novi Public Safety alert.

Two men are dead following a head-on collision shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday on Eight Mile Road near Napier Road on the Northville-Novi-South Lyon border.

A man from Livonia driving a blue Mercury on Eight Mile was hit, according to witness reports, by a truck that was driving westbound but veered into the eastbound lane, Northville Public Safety Director John Werth said.

The Livonia driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The South Lyon driver of an F-150 Truck was taken to Botsford Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Ages of the two men were not immediately available.

Neither vehicle had any passengers on board.

It is unclear what caused the South Lyon man to veer into the other lane, Werth said. Police are still investigating.

Eight Mile between Beck and Napier will be closed for several hours while investigators survey the scene, Werth said. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to find an alternate route.
