Peter Gerard Jones, 46, charged with the homicide of an 84-year-old Novi woman at her home near Northville, appeared in court Wednesday morning for his preliminary examination conference.
Jones' attorney Arnold Reed, who represented ex-Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, requested that the preliminary exam be adjourned until next month. Judge Dennis N. Powers, of 52-1 District Court in Novi, agreed to the request, which means Jones waived his right to a preliminary hearing within 14 days of his arraignment.

He is charged with homicide – murder first degree – premeditated and homicide – felony murder. A conviction for either charge carries a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
Jones, who is currently on parole for manslaughter, will continue to be held with no bond at Oakland County Jail. His preliminary exam is 1 p.m. Feb. 11 at 52-1 District Court, 48150 Grand River Ave.
