Northville Digs Out From Under Nine Inches of Snow

Eight accidents were reported in Northville Township since the storm began.

If you're still digging out of your drive way this Presidents Day, you're not alone.

After about nine inches of snow fell on Northville overnight, some of the roads remain slick and hazardous. Area totals ranged from 9.6 inches in Ann Arbor to 11.1 inches in Burton near Flint to 8.4 inches in Garden City, according storm totals provided by the National Weather Service (NWS).

From when the snow began Sunday to about 2 p.m. today, eight accidents were reported in Northville township, according to the records department. Most calls were for vehicles stranded in the snow.

Roads were closed this morning, and have since re-opened, between Seven and Eight Mile roads on Beck, as well as on Five Mile Road between Sheldon and Beck, records show.

The Novi Police Department issued a Nixle community alert at 2 p.m. cautioning drivers to avoid the intersection of Eight Mile and Beck roads where stranded vehicles and icy roads made for a hazardous mix.

The National Weather Service forecast for Monday night shows more snow is possible, along with cloudy skies. The temperature is expected to reach a low of around 13 degrees, with an east-northeast wind between 13 and 16 mph. Some gusts may get as high as 24 mph.

On Tuesday, the NWS forecast shows cloudy skies are likely through mid-morning, with gradual clearing. The temperature will increase to a high of about 25 degrees. Skies are expected to clear up Tuesday night with a low temperature around 8 degrees.

held no classes on Monday because of Presidents Day, and classes are expected to resume Tuesday. and schools resume on Wednesday, at the close of their mid-winter break.
