UPDATED: Northville Pedestrian Killed in Car Accident

A Redford woman driving a Mercury Sable struck and killed a Northville woman Thursday night.

A 60-year-old Northville woman was struck and killed by a car Thursday night on Seven Mile Road near Gerald Avenue in Northville Township, according to police.

The accident occurred around 9:25 p.m.

According to John Werth, Director of the Northville Township Public Safety Department, the Northville woman was leaving her job at a nearby restaurant with two co-workers. Her co-workers crossed the road safely before her, but she was struck by an oncoming vehicle going west on Seven Mile.

According to the police report, the driver of the vehicle, a Mercury Sable, was a 24-year-old Redford Township woman.

The Northville woman was treated at the scene by the Northville Township Fire Department and was then transported to Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, where she died, police say.

The Redford woman was not injured in the crash.

Werth said testing for the presence of alcohol came back negative and the woman is not in custody.

"This appears to be just a very unfortunate accident," Werth said.

He said it is always advisable for pedestrians to cross main roads at crosswalks.

This is the third fatal pedestrian accident on Seven Mile Road in Northville Township in the past year.

In August, a died after being hit by a car while walking along Seven Mile Road near Haggerty Road.

In September, and killed while riding his bike on Seven Mile Road between Haggerty Road and Silver Springs Drive.

Werth said Northville Township is working with Wayne County to evaluate problems with this particular stretch of Seven Mile Road.

"Three fatal pedestrian crashes on any roadway in one year is a lot," Werth said.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
