Northville Police Arrest Two Teens Accused of 22 Acts of Vandalism

The boys are accused of causing damage to mailboxes, vehicles and other residential property in the city and township.

A pair of Northville teens caught in the act of damaging cars and mailboxes with bats, among other crimes, were arrested by township police.

Police estimate thousands of dollars in damage caused to property through 22 incidents in the city and township.

The boys are believed to be responsible for 16 incidents of malicious destruction of property in the township and six in the city on the night of Oct. 30.

The teens also damaged Halloween decorations, car lights and mirrors, according to police reports.

Northville Township Public Safety Director John Werth said that police caught the two Northville boys, both age 15, in the act. He said that there was a brief foot chase when the boys’ car ran out of gas, but eventually officers arrested the two.

“It’s unfortunate these youths felt this was a good way to go out and have fun,” he said.

Werth said the boys’ parents were cooperative with police in the investigation. It is unclear who, if anyone, will repay the damage.

The two will be treated as juveniles in the Wayne and Oakland County court systems, because of their age and because some of the incidents occurred on the Oakland County side of the city.
