Plymouth Man in Critical Condition After Accident in Northville Township

The accident, on Five Mile between Beck and Sheldon roads, left one in serious condition, police say.

Northville Township police said it is unclear why a 53-year-old Plymouth man rear-ended a semi-tractor trailer on Five Mile Road Thursday morning.

The man, who was driving a Pontiac Montana minivan, was headed west on Five Mile at Pilot Drive, according to Sgt. Matt Mayes. The accident ocurred around 5:30 a.m. when the minivan hit the semi, which was waiting to make a left turn.

The driver of the minivan was taken by helicopter to the University of Michigan Hospital and was in critical condition, according to Mayes. A passenger in the minivan suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Mary Hospital in Livonia. The semi driver, a 40-year-old Illinois man, was not injured.
