Small Fire Leads to Evacuation of Northville Elementary School

Smoke at Thornton Creek led to an evacuation of the school on Thursday.

Classes resumed Thursday afternoon at after smoke was noticed in two classrooms leading to a school evacuation.

According to a school district email, the damage was not serious. A small fire started in a fan motor.

"The fire has been extinguished and the area has been aired out. Both the Fire Chief and the Police Chief have declared the building safe for return to classrooms," according to the email.

The students were placed on school buses when the incident happend at 12:45 p.m. to keep them warm and to be ready for transportation to another location if necessary. About an hour later, the classes resumed.
