City of Livonia Clerk Terry Marecki announced Tuesday her candidacy in November's election for the 9th District seat on the Wayne County Commission, which represents the City of Northville, Northville Township and Livonia.

“It is no secret that both Livonia and Northville have been donors to the county, and we need a commissioner that will fight to bring the county back in line,” said Symantha Heath, Northville Township trustee, in a news release. “I am confident that Terry Marecki has the experience and drive to take on this monumental task.”

Marecki, a Republican, seeks to succeed current Commissioner Laura Cox, who is leaving the commission at the end of this year.

“Whether it has been the school board, the city council or now as Clerk of Livonia, Terry has a proven record of holding government fiscally accountable,” Wayne County Commissioner Laura Cox said in the news release. “That is why I am proud to support her efforts to take my seat on the county commission."

Marecki plans to be a "watch dog" for the taxpayers like current Commissioner Laura Cox, she said in the release.

“We simply cannot afford to let Wayne County continue on the road to financial ruin," she said.

In addition to serving as an elected official, Marecki is currently serving as secretary of the Livonia Community Foundation, a member of the Livonia Community Prayer Breakfast and on the University Trustee Committee on Planning and Mission Effectiveness for Madonna University.

Marecki has a husband, Mark, four children and two grandchildren.
