Northville Township Board of Trustees Hires Consultant on Robert Scott Prison

The consultant will help determine the uses and value of the property.

Northville Township's board of trustees, after a bit of discussion and compromise on the details, unanimously voted to hire a consultant for the Robert Scott Correctional Facility for no more than $100.

The state officially extended an offer to the township to buy the property at Five Mile and Beck roads for $1 on May 30. Northville Township has 60 days from then to enter into a purchasing agreement and 120 days to close the agreement. The township gets first dibs on the purchase and, if they decline to enter into a purchasing agreement, Wayne County can buy it.

Supervisor Mark Abbo said that the county has expressed an interest in purchasing the property if the township passes on the agreement. But the county has not indicated to him what they would use it for.

Initially, the board considered hiring Southfield-based Signature Associates for exclusive listing rights too.

Several trustees, including Marjorie Banner, Sue Hillebrand, Christopher Roosen and Mindy Herrmann, said that they did not want to make that committment just yet.

After the meeting, Abbo said that the agreement would allow the consultant to look into the possible uses of the property, its fair market value and assess whether it is worth it for the township to buy the property.
