Northville Primary Election Results

Here's an overview of how several key races in Northville played out in the August 7 primary election.

Northville voters averaged a 30 percent voter turnout in Northville city and township Tuesday night for the primary election.

Township voters picked and sent four Republican and one Democratic candidate forward to compete for a trustee seat. Voters also picked Democrat Syed Taj to run in the 11th Congressional District race against Tea Party Republican Kerry Bentivolio.

Northville Township elections

According to unofficial election results from clerk Sue Hillebrand, who ran unopposed: Voters in the township selected a new supervisor - . He replaces . Nix won with 2,035 to 's 1,533. got 178 votes.

Voters also picked a new treasurer, current trustee . She will replace Richard Henningsen, who did not seek re-election. Banner won the election with 1,828 votes. She beat , who ended in a close second with 1,731 votes.

For the supervisor and treasurer offices, the Republican candidates will not face a Democratic challenger. They have essentially won their seats in the November election.

Republican trustee candidates Mindy Herrmann, Symantha Heath, Marvin Gans and Fred Shadko move forward to the November election to face off against Democrat Michael Nolta.

The five trustee candidates will compete for one of four seats.

Here's how they did in the August 7 primary, in order of the highest number of votes to the lowest:

  • Herrmann (R): 2,818
  • Heath (R): 2,401
  • Gans (R): 2,191
  • Shadko (R): 2,122
  • Nolta (D): 1,143
  • Kheibari (R): 1,074

11th Congressional District race

In what is perhaps one of the most watched races in Michigan, Northville voters selected their candidates for the 11th Congressional District. The November winner will take the U.S. House of Representatives seat recently .

with 65 percent of the vote, versus her 35 percent of the vote. Taj won with 61 percent of the vote versus Roberts' 39 percent of the vote.

In Northville, here's how the 11th Congressional District candidates did:

  • Republican voters picked Bentivolio of Milford to represent the party in the November election. He edges out write-in candidate Nancy Cassis of Novi.
  • Democratic candidate Taj of Canton will move on to the November election. Taj beat candidate .

Democrats in Northville Township overwhelmingly back Taj, who earned 1,101 votes or about double the amount Roberts got. In the city, 390 votes were cast for Taj versus 125 cast for Roberts.

In the township, Bentivolio earned 2,142 votes. Write-in candidates earned 1,427. In the city, Bentivolio 436 votes. The write-in candidates, which includes Nancy Cassis, earned 354.
