In the last round of interviews, the 51-year-old superintendent of the Manchester Community School District was ultimately beat out for the job by Northville's current assistant superintendent of instruction, . They vied to replace retiring superintendent in the summer.

On Wednesday night, the Royal Oak school board voted unanimously to extend its superintendent post to Lewis-Lakin, who was one of two finalists chosen from a pool of 32 applicants. He will replace outgoing Royal Oak Superintendent Thomas Moline.
