"Some things are going to get dramatic in a sense," Rezmierski told the crowd of parents and staff, referring to the money the district could be loosing in the aftermath of proposed budget cuts announced last week by Gov. Rick Snyder.

Snyder announced that school districts across the state would lose $470 per pupil, if his plan is approved.

If voters approve the sinking fund on May 3, the money could be used for school capital improvements such as new roofing, carpeting and parking lots.

Over the next couple of months, Rezmierski said the district will be presenting its budget – which must be balanced by June 1 – and making its case to faculty, staff and parents "so they can get out and make a wise decision."

Board president Joan Wadsworth added that Northville has a history of showing great support for its schools.

"When times are tough we're grateful for that," she said.

School board, superintentendent honored

Students at Moraine honored Rezmierski at the meeting, which was his last at Moraine as superintendent. Rezmierski retires at the end of the school year and will be replaced by the current superintendent of instruction, .

School board meetings rotate locations from school to school.

Students also gave school board members appreciation gift bags, with symbolic contents like paper clips "to organize things," one student said. And "Tylenol. Because this job can give you a headache," another said.
