Northville Administrator's Transfer Means More Time with Family

Robert Watson informed Northville school officials he plans to leave his post as assistant high school principal. But he's not going far.

Longtime Northville Public Schools administrator Robert Watson is leaving – sort of.

Currently the principal at Northville High School, Watson plans to transfer to a new role as assistant principal at Hillside Middle School next fall, the Observer & Eccentric reports.

The move helps the district address the need for added administrative support at the middle school, but also will free up more time for Watson to spend with his family, he said.

“Each year, I have expanded my role significantly and I have found myself spending less time with my wife and my three sons,” Watson told the newspaper. “Before long, my sons will be grown up and off to college. It is through my reflection over the past several months that I came to this decision to request a transfer.”

Superintendent Mary Kay Gallagher said that in the next month, she will schedule time with staff, students and parents to get feedback on qualities they’d like to see in a new high school principal.

Watson’s replacement should be named by late May or early June, the newspaper said.
