Northville Girls Soccer Beats Salem

The Mustangs won the game, 1-0.

The Northville High School Mustangs varsity girls soccer beat Salem High School Thursday by a score of 1-0.

First Half                     

5th minute: Junior Gabby Mencotti served a cross from the left touch line that floated in the wind over the Salem keeper’s head.

Freshmen Kacey Cerretani rushed to the back post of the goal and poked in the game’s only goal. 

Strong defense by Ashley Peper, Cassidy Ebach, Alexis Mencotti, Tara Pawloski, Sarah Castellano, and Morgan Gozdor preserved the win. 

Sophomore Emily Maresh was in net for Northville to earn her first shutout of the year. 

Northville moves to  5-1-0; Salem moves to 3-2-1.

The next game is Tuesday at Northville High School against rival Novi High School.

Northville Girls Soccer Beats Stevenson

The Northville High School Mustangs varsity girls soccer beat Livonia's Stevenson High School Monday by a score of 5-0.

The following summary of the game was submitted by Northville girls soccer coach Eric Brucker.

(above 60 degrees; no rain)

First Half                      

2nd minute: Senior Gabby Guibord gets a back pass from sophomore Alana Dorfstatter and hits a 30 yard shot off the keeper’s hands.     

8th minute: Sophomore Kelly McHugh collects a cross from Dorfstatter and loops the ball over the keeper’s head.       

21st minute: After a Stevenson defender handled a ball in the penalty box, Senior Emily Bush scores on a penalty kick.

Second half                               

42nd minute: Kelly McHugh scores her second of the night with a 22 yard shot into the upper left corner of the net.       

70th minute: Junior Rachel Yaggi scores on a rebound off the crossbar; McHugh registered the assist.                        

Northville moves to  4-1-0; Stevenson moves to 2-2-0.
