Northville Girls Soccer Defeats Brighton, Saginaw Nouvel

The Mustangs played against Brighton High School, Saginaw's Nouvel Catholic Central High School and Midland High School at the Saginaw Invitational.

The Northville High School Mustangs varsity girls soccer played three games Saturday at the Saginaw Invitational.

The following summary of the games was submitted by Northville girls soccer coach Eric Brucker.

Game 1

Northville Mustangs beat Brighton High School 1-0.

5th minute of the first half: Sophomore Kelly McHugh played a cross from the left side over the keeper’s head to the far post; freshmen Kacey Cerretani poked in the cross for the game winner.Senior Kiki Hilmer was in net for the Mustang shutout.

Game 2

Northville Mustangs beat Saginaw's Nouvel Catholic Central High School 3-0.

7th minute: Junior Ashley Peper served a deadball into the Nouvel penalty area. The ball was deflected several times and fell to the feet of freshmen Maddy Westenberg. Maddy turned and chipped a shot over the keeper’s head to take a 1-0 lead. 

22nd minute: Junior Gabby Mencotti fires a shot from 35 yards out and skips past the keeper – no assist. 

27th minute: Senior Emily Bush gets her first goal of the day on a header off a corner kick; Ashley Peper took the corner kick. Senior Kiki Hilmer and sophomore Emily Maresh split time in net for the shutout.  

Game 3

Northville Mustangs tie with Midland High School 1-1.

22nd minute: Junior Ashley Peper served up her second corner kick assist to senior Emily Bush. Bush again scored on a header. Midland would score in the second half to preserve a tie.               

Northville moves to  8-1-2.

It was great to be able to play in some decent weather. We were able to move some people into different positions and see how they reacted. I thought we improved on the offensive end of the field and some of our set plays generated some goals which is encouraging.  

The next game was Monday night at Northville High School against South Lyon East High School.
