Northville Girls Soccer Ties with Novi, Beats South Lyon

The Mustangs tied the first game 0-0 and won the second 4-1.

The Northville High School Mustangs varsity girls soccer tied 0-0 with rival Novi High School at the home game on Tuesday.

The following summary of the game was submitted by Northville girls soccer coach Eric Brucker.

(60 degrees; windy with rain for most of the game)

In a defensive battle it was the goalkeepers that stood out in last night’s Central division matchup. Northville’s senior goalkeeper Kiki Hilmer made 11 saves in her fourth shutout of the season. 

Northville and Novi remain tied atop the KLAA Central division.  

Northville moves to  5-1-1; Novi moves to 4-1-1.

Northville Girls Soccer Beats South Lyon

The Northville High School Mustangs varsity girls soccer won 4-1 against South Lyon High School at the away game on Thursday.

The following summary of the game was submitted by Northville girls soccer coach Eric Brucker.

(48 degrees; windy with some sun)

First Half

5th minute: From a corner kick, freshmen Maddy Westenberg takes a shot that rebounds off the keeper; junior Gabby Mencotti take the rebounds and scores.  

Second Half 

45th minute: Junior Ashley Peper fires a direct kick over the wall and past the keeper from 25 yards out.

47th minute: Senior Emily Bush finds freshmen Kacey Cerretani on the right hand side of the goal. Cerretani buries the shot in the side netting. 

76th minute: South Lyon gets on the scoreboard on a rebounded shot from seven yards out. 

78th minute: Emily Bush hits a one-touch shot to the near post off a cross from Gabby Mencotti. Sophomore Emily Maresh was in net to collect the win with 6 saves.  

Northville moves to  6-1-1; South Lyon moves to 6-2-0.

The next games were Saturday at the Saginaw Invitational against Brighton, Nouvel and Midland.
