Northville High School Scores Far Above State Average in Merit Exam

NHS makes gains in all areas but social studies on 2011 Michigan Merit Exam.

Scores show mostly gains in Northville

Scores on the state high school test saw a small increase in most subject areas in 2011 compared to the previous year, according to results released by the Michigan Department of Education today. Juniors were tested in the spring in reading, writing, math, science and social studies.

The information released today also includes student ACT scores. Northville's average ACT score went up slightly from 23.7 in 2010 to 23.9 in 2011. The state average this year is 19.3 out of a possible 36.

For each subject, the percentages of Northville High School's incoming senior class achieving proficient or advanced performance levels in 2011 were as follows:

Around the state writing, math, science proficiency increases

Statewide, there were as many gains as there were drops.

“Michigan’s future in large part will depend upon the readiness of our students to enter a career or college with the educational foundation needed to succeed and have a strong quality of life,” Gov. Rick Snyder said in a press release.

“Our steady progress is promising, but we can and must do better. I am confident that with our rigorous high school requirements, high quality teachers and the enactment and implementation of key education reforms, this positive trend will continue.”

Scores in writing, math and science saw some percentage increases while reading and science saw a decrease. The average ACT score in the state remained at 19.3 from 2010 to 2011.
