Football: Northville Mustangs Tame Novi Wildcats

Northville's Mustangs defeated Novi's Wildcats in overtime play in the Baseline Rivalry Game Friday evening at the newly renovated Tom Holzer Ford Field by a score of 21-14.

Friday evening's match-up between the varsity Northville and Novi high schools football teams was a hard fought, close game plagued by rain and cool temperatures throughout.

Northville High School scored the first touchdown of the game late in the first quarter, and the extra point was good, making the score 7-0. A field goal attempt by the Mustangs in the second quarter failed, and the half ended with a score of Mustangs 7, Wildcats 0. Throughout the game, Novi seemed to have trouble hanging on to the ball, with a total of four fumbles, all recovered by Northville.

Fumbles aside, Novi started the second half with renewed vigor, returning the kick-off to Northville's 30 yard line. Jeffrey Baker of Novi, #29, continued the Wildcat surge, carrying the ball to the end zone. A successful kick tied the score at 7-all.
