Friday evening's match-up between the varsity Northville and Novi high schools football teams was a hard fought, close game plagued by rain and cool temperatures throughout.
Northville High School scored the first touchdown of the game late in the first quarter, and the extra point was good, making the score 7-0. A field goal attempt by the Mustangs in the second quarter failed, and the half ended with a score of Mustangs 7, Wildcats 0. Throughout the game, Novi seemed to have trouble hanging on to the ball, with a total of four fumbles, all recovered by Northville.
Fumbles aside, Novi started the second half with renewed vigor, returning the kick-off to Northville's 30 yard line. Jeffrey Baker of Novi, #29, continued the Wildcat surge, carrying the ball to the end zone. A successful kick tied the score at 7-all.
Northville responded with another touchdown in the third quarter, regaining the lead by a score of 14-7. Again, Novi tied the score, after a long run by Novi's Emanuel Jackson, #5 resulted in a Wildcat touchdown.
Overtime play began with the Wildcats winning the coin toss, and giving the ball to Northville. The Mustangs' Jake Hansen ran the ball into the end zone. With a successful kick by Northville, the score was 21-14.
Novi failed to score on their attempt, ending the game with a Mustang victory.
