New hire announced for Northville High School

Northville Public Schools announced Monday the promotion of Katie Shirk to the position of 's Assistant Principal and district Coordinator of Secondary Special Services.

She will be responsible for coordination and supervision of, according to a press release: NHS student intervention, assisted learning and special education programs; collaborate with the NHS administration and staff in the continued development of Response to Intervention and Positive Behavior and Intervention Support initiatives; help in the evaluations of NHS special education and assisted learning staff; and provide coordination and primary supervision of NHS counselors; among other duties.

“This new position in the district is in response to much-needed administrative and student support help at our secondary level, as well as a recent re-organization of existing resources that enable the position to be added without placing any additional burden on the district’s general fund budget,” said Northville Superintendent Mary Kay Gallagher in a press release. “The size of the high school and its enrollment creates a challenge for our existing administrative team of one principal and two assistants principals, and this has been exacerbated by the new state requirement for annual year-end teacher evaluations. Having Katie on board to help will make a big difference.”
