Northville Teachers Union, School Board to Vote on Contract Agreement

Bargaining teams for the two groups have agreed to a mediator's proposed settlement, which still must be ratified.

The bargaining teams for and the Northville Education Association have agreed to a mediator’s proposed settlement, according to a press release issued Friday.

Northville Education Association (NEA) members and the Northville Board of Education will now vote on whether to ratify the contract at their respective upcoming meetings this week on Monday and Wednesday.

The details of the agreement have not been released to the public, but will be discussed at the Board’s meeting, the press release said.

The school district had previously laid off 78 employees, including 65 full- and part-time teaching positions to help balance its budget, which includes a nearly .

The majority of these teachers , where more than 100 people attended, and several shared their concerns about the cuts. At that meeting, the Board said that some of the laid-off staff could be called back once the on-going contract negotiations came to a close.

The NEA has scheduled a contract ratification meeting for Monday at 11 a.m. The Board of Education has announced a special meeting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at to consider the agreement based on the outcome of the NEA meeting, said the press release.
