Silver Springs Elementary Principal Scott Snyder Resigns Position

Decision by Northville school board to not automatically renew Snyder's contract drew criticism in June by district parents.

Scott Snyder has resigned his position as principal of Silver Springs Elementary School to pursue other career opportunities, according to a letter by Superintendent Mary K. Gallagher.

The resignation came not long after district parents in support of Snyder, whose contract was not automatically renewed by the Northville school board. The board , to not automatically renew the contract. The board did not give a reason for the non-renewal.

In June, about addressed the board in search of answers for the non-renewal of Snyder's contract.

Board member Ken Roth, speaking for the board, said in June that the matter was given great consideration. 

"As to any discussion regarding a specific administrator, or principal or teacher. We respect our teachers and administrators too much to go into specific details regard any personnel or student matter in a public forum," Roth said at the meeting.

Gallagher's letter did not indicate any turmoil between Snyder and administrators or school board members.

"On behalf of the Board and the District, I extend my thanks to Principal Snyder for his years of service to our District and in particular for his commitment of service to Silver Springs Elementary School," Gallagher wrote in the letter to district parents. "I appreciate the devotion of his time, talents and energies to the Silver Springs students and families."

Gallagher said the district will begin its search for another principal "in the next several days."

Dear Silver Springs Parents, Guardians, and Families, 

I hope you are enjoying the waning days and weeks of summer break. We are looking forward to seeing your children at Silver Springs again this fall.  As Superintendent, I am committed to keeping you informed of events affecting your school and thus I am writing to inform you that Mr. Scott Snyder, Principal of Silver Springs Elementary, has informed  the District that he is resigning his position to pursue other opportunities for the coming school year.    

On behalf of the Board and the District, I extend my thanks to Principal Snyder for his years of service to our District and in particular for his commitment of service to Silver Springs Elementary School. I appreciate the devotion of his time, talents and energies to the Silver Springs students and families.

We wish Mr. Snyder well in his future professional endeavors. While Mr. Snyder will be missed, please be assured that Northville Schools is beginning the search process and looks forward to welcoming a new Principal to Silver Springs Elementary.  Further information regarding the search and selection process will be forthcoming in the next several days.  Those who would like the opportunity to provide input regarding the profile and attributes for any successful candidate will have an opportunity to do so.  The position is being posted immediately. While we will extend the search if necessary, it is our hope to have the new principal on board for the start of the school year, or very soon after.
