At the Farmers Market: It's National Farmers Market Week
Someone will win a "Market Basket" full of fresh , local produce and products on Thursday as we celebrate National Farmers Market Week at the Northville Farmers Market.
It's National Farmers Market Week this week, August 5 through August 11. For the 13th year, the USDA has proclaimed the first week in August as a time to get acquainted with your local farmers market.
Farmers Markets are an old way of life that has become new again. In 1924 Northville had a bustling farmers market which continues to this day. On a sunny day, we have around 1800 customers. The majority of our shoppers are local Northville and Novi, but we serve about 30 other local zip codes as well.
In 2001 Michigan had about 90 markets, now in 2012 there are close to 300. Over 7500 farmers markets thrive across the country. Why the increase? More and more consumers have developed an interest in fresh and local food. Farmers Markets provide access to the freshest healthy local produce and products, they help boost the local economy, and create community.

The Northville Farmers Market celebration of National Farmers Market Week will include:
- Serving you---our great customers---with the freshest local, in-season produce available, local honey and maple syrup, fresh organic eggs, local baked goods, cheese, pickles and much more.
- Aubree's, a local restaurant, will be doing our CHEFS AT THE MARKET cooking demonstration at 9:00 AM using local produce and herbs in their recipes.
- We continue to accept donations of fresh produce from your garden or purchased at the Market for Civic Concern---serving local families in need. The donation bins are in front of the white building.
- Sign up at the white building to win a "Market Basket" full of local products from our Market. Entry forms will be available at the white building.
- Special coloring pictures will be available at the white building.
