Detroit Mercy sprinter wins 200 meter event at Ypsilanti meet

Charles Anthony, a Northville native and Farmington High School grad, wins 200-meter dash and places fifth in 100 meters at weekend Eastern Michigan University track meet.

The University of Detroit Mercy's Charles Anthony, a junior from Northville, won the 200-meter dash during the weekend's Eastern Michigan University Twilight outdoor meet in Ypsilanti.

Anthony, a graduate of Farmington High School, beat 28 other sprinters with his time of 22.0, according to a Detroit Mercy press release, just missing his personal best of 21.98. The sprinter was fifth in the 100-meter dash with an 11.07 time in temperatures hovering around 40 degrees. He is the son of Charles Sr. and Theresa Anthony and majoring in civil engineering.

Teams from Adrian, Concordia (Mich.), Hillsdale, IUPUI, Macomb Community College, Marygrove, Michigan, Oakland, Wayne State, Western Michigan, as well as Eastern Michigan participated in the two-day event.
