Girls Basketball: Northville Trounces Walled Lake Western

The girls finished out their regular season with a 53-21 win.

Northville High School's varsity girls basketball team played Walled Lake Western High School Wednesday night, ending their regular season with a 53-21 win.

Leading scorers for the Mustangs were Alex Moynes, Kendra Brenner and Meredith Williams.

"Northville dominated the boards as they out-rebounded Western 36-14 and forced Western into shooting under 14 percent for the game," said coach Todd Gudith. "Northville got out and ran in transition for some easy baskets in the first half to blow the game wide open as the took a ten point first quarter lead and extended it to 22 by the half."

Defense was Northville's strong suit in the game, Gudith said.

He added, "The strong team defense continued in the second half as Northville held the Warriors to just two baskets in the final 16 minutes. I like how we've gotten back to playing team defense. The girls have done a terrific job the past couple of games shutting down the other teams' best player. We've been really unselfish on offense and have done a little more running the floor of late and that has led to easier scores."

"We're playing with confidence right now and we need that going into a tough district tournament."
