The Mustangs lost the game 44-32.

The Northville Mustangs boys varsity basketball team fell into second place in the Kensington Lakes Activity Association Central Division after suffering a hard loss to South Lyon Tuesday night. The final score was 44-32.

The Mustangs (8-6, 6-3 KLAA Central) couldn’t get their motors running as South Lyon (9-5, 6-2 KLAA Central) executed its defensive pressure to near perfection. Northville tried moving the ball on offense but the Lion’s trapping defense converted many Mustang possessions into forced turnovers. The Mustangs broke the ice on a 25 foot long pass from Gertley to Henzi cutting to the basket. Andrew Meacham and Andrew Poterala each had four points in the quarter as the Lions took the lead 10-17.

The Mustangs fought back in the second quarter as they cut the Lions lead 16-19 midway through the quarter. The ‘Stangs clearly had the height advantage as Andrew Meacham slammed two blocked shots and Jeff Gertley had the third block. Unfortunately, Northville could only muster one field goal from Jeff Gertley and their remaining points came from the charity stripe as Meacham was (3-4) and Poterala was (3-6). Northville cut the South Lyon lead to five points at halftime (18-23).

The third quarter started out with a bang as Meacham nailed Northville’s first points outside the arc and Hewlett shoved two blocked shots back at South Lyon. Gertley tried to kick start the Mustangs with his outside shooting on a (4-6) effort but South Lyon had everything going their way on to a clear victory 32-44.

The Mustang scoring leaders were Meacham with 10 points and 3 blocked shots, followed by Gertley with 8 points. MacDonald and Poterala each had 5 points and Henzi and Hewlett had 2 points.

Come cheer the Mustangs onto victory this Friday at 7 p.m. for Senior Night against the South Lyon East Cougars. Go Stangs!
