Northville, Canton Girls Soccer End Game in a Tie

Northville goes on to play Plymouth High School on Thursday.

In a match-up against on Monday, 's varsity girls soccer team ended the game in a draw, 2-2.

Here's a recap from Mustangs coach Eric Brucker:

  • At the 21-minute mark, Canton's Ally Krause shifted through the Northville defense and played a square ball across the 6-yard box to an on-rushing Megan Trapp. Trapp one-timed the ball into the net.
  • At the 27-minute mark, Senior Mallory Weber flicked a pass from the attacking midfield, past the Canton defense to Sophomore Jamie Cheslik.  Cheslik fought off a defender and patiently placed a shot near post past the Canton keeper.
  • At the 39:32 mark in the first half, Canton's Trapp returned the favor to Krause. Trapp split the Northville defense with a through ball. Krause collected the pass and shot the ball into the far side netting.  
  • In the second half, at the 67-minute mark, Mallory Weber fought with a Canton defender who handled the ball with her hand. Northville was awarded a penalty kick but the 1:1 shot was saved by the Canton keeper to keep the 1-2 Canton lead.
  • Later, at the 72-minute mark, Senior Claire McHugh swerved a corner kick directly into the back side netting for an unassisted corner kick goal.

"Kiki Hilmer was in net for the Mustangs," Brucker said.

The Mustangs' next game is 7 p.m. Thursday at .

"It was a very physical game. Both teams never gave an inch. The girls battled hard for 80 minutes, which I really liked," Brucker said. "There was no quit, even when we got down. We still have some work do to with defensive responsibilities."

He added, "Canton is a very good team and took advantage of their opportunities. We had the chances but did not finish as I would have liked. Now the focus turns to Plymouth – another tough defense and another speedy forward."
