Northville Girls Basketball Beats South Lyon

Northville will play Canton for the Michigan High School Athletic Association District Championship Friday.

Northville's girls basketball team played and beat South Lyon Wednesday, by a score of 59-35, in the Michigan High School Athletic Association district semi-finals.

Nine of the varsity Mustangs scored in the game. Leading scorers were Meredith Williams and Kendra Brenner with 10 points each, Brittany Berehulka and Alex Moynes with 8 points each and Mallory Weber with 7.

"The Mustangs got a lot of their early points converting in transition as they broke the pressure being put on by South Lyon," said coach Todd Gudith.

He added, "Our girls did a remarkable job handling their pressure. We spent a lot of time at practice on it. Beating that early and getting some easier scores boosted our confidence. We know we're a team that can compete with anyone around when we are playing at our best. Our girls were confident and hungry to make it to Friday's final. We don't just want to get to the district championship game, we want to win it."

The team (14-7 overall) next plays Canton for the MHSAA District Championship Friday at 7 p.m. at Novi High School.
