Northville Girls Basketball Takes Down Waterford Mott

The Mustangs won the Monday night away game, 43-25.

Northville High School senior Alex Moynes led the varsity girls basketball team in a 43-25 victory over Waterford Mott High School Monday night.

Moynes scored 24 points for the Mustangs in the first three quarters and was the game's leading scorer.

Coach Todd Gudith said of the game: "The Mustangs also held the rebounding edge 35-20. It wasn't just the offense that was going well for Northville but their defense came to play as well. Northville made Mott work for every shot."

Another area the team excelled in, Gudith said, was keeping an eye on Waterford Mott's star player Rachel Hung.

"(Hung) had scored 34 points the game before and was coming in averaging 20 points/game," Gudith said. "Our girls did a tremendous job on Hung. She's got a knack for scoring. Mott's success depends on her so we knew she had to be limited."

Northville, 12-7 overall, will travel to Walled Lake Western to finish the regular season. The team will play in the state district tournament on Feb. 29 at Novi against the winner of the Plymouth-South Lyon game, Gudith said.
