Northville Girls Soccer Beats South Lyon 8-0

Northville moves to 3-0 in the KLAA Central division after defeating South Lyon.

girls soccer team beat South Lyon 8-0 on Tuesday.

The girls played the game in high winds. "Even with the strong wind, we were able to control the ball and play a well-executed possession game," said coach Eric Brucker.

Northville moves to 5-0-2 (3-0-0 KLAA Central) South Lyon moves to 3-4-0 (0-3-0 KLAA Central).

Here's a recap from Brucker:

At the 18 minute mark, sophomore Megan Buckingham slotted a pass from the South Lyon touch line to an on-rushing Senior Mallory Weber. Mallory deflected the ball into the net with her chest. At 19 minutes, Weber scored her second goal of the game and fellow senior Jenni Borawski crossed a low line drive pass from the right flank to Weber in the center of the goal box.

At the 35 minute mark, Buckingham got her own goal off a pass from senior Claire McHugh. Buckingham released on a breakaway and slid the ball past a diving South Lyon keeper. Thirty seconds later, Buckingham recorded her second assist of the game, sending sophomore Jamie Cheslik on a breakaway.

Cheslik got her second goal of the game at the 45 minute mark on her second breakaway. The lead pass was provided by Mallory Weber. At 57 minutes, Junior Emily Bush got on the score sheet. Bush received a short cross from Junior Gabbie Guibord and buried a shot in the side netting from 12 yards out. At the 60 minute mark, Bush recorded her second goal of the game. Cheslik got the assist on a cross from the right hand edge of the field.

Chelsik completed her the three goal hat trick on her third breakaway of the game at the 67 minute mark. Guibord provided the perfect pass from the midfield to send Cheslik to the net.

The game was called based on the 8 goal mercy rule.

Freshman Emily Maresh was in net for the shutout. She recorded two big saves in the first half.

"We were able to show some of the fire power we have on the offensive end of the field. Very unselfish play led to multiple goal scorers and multiple assist makers," Brucker said. "The defense played solid and limited South Lyon to only two quality score changes and Emily Maresh was up to the challenge."

The next game is scheduled for tonight against South Lyon East High School.
