Northville Girls Soccer Beats South Lyon, South Lyon East

The Northville High School Mustangs varsity girls soccer team beat South Lyon High School Tuesday by a score of 4-0.

The following summary of the game was submitted by Northville girls soccer coach Eric Brucker.

On Senior night, Northville picks up its 12th win of the season with a 4-0  shutout of South Lyon. Before the game, five seniors were recognized – Emily Bush, Cassidy Ebach, Kiki Hilmer, Alexis Mencotti, and Gabbie Guibord.

First half

13th Minute: Junior Gabby Mencotti played a long ball out of the midfield to a streaking Emily Bush. Bush shielded the ball for the defender and fired an 18 yard shot.

23rd Minute: Gabby Mencotti gets her own goal on a 12 yard shot. Senior Gabby Guibord slotted a ball to Mencotti’s feet just inside South Lyon’s penalty area. 

Second Half

61st Minute:

Junior Rachel Yaggi threw the ball into Guibord in the high right corner of the field. Guibord fires a tough angle shot at the Lion goalkeeper. The ball deflects off the keeper an into the net.

64th Minute: Sophomore Kelly Mchugh drove down the left hand flank before cutting into the middle near the 18 yard box. McHugh dished off to freshmen Maddie Westenberg who turned a score the final goal of the game. Senior Kiki Hilmer registered the shutout for Northville with one save. 

Northville moved to 12-3-2; South Lyon moved to 10-8-0.

The Mustangs Defeat South Lyon East

The Northville High School Mustangs varsity girls soccer team beat South Lyon East High School Thursday by a score of 4-0.

Northville picks up win #13 with a 4-0 shutout of South Lyon East. 

First half

23rd Minute: Junior Rachel Yaggi plays a through ball down the middle of the field. Junior Gabby Mencotti juked the keeper and scored.

32nd Minute: A Cougar defender was called for a handball in the penalty area. Senior Emily Bush shot the Penalty Kick for a 2-0 haft time score. 

Second Half

50th Minute: Bush gets her second goal of the game; this time via header. Gabby Mencotti dribbled to the touch line a played a cross from the left flank to a waiting Bush who headed the ball to the left of the keeper.

57th Minute: Junior Ashley Peper raced to the goal and received a slotted bally from Mencotti. Peper bounced the shot off the far post and into the goal. Senior Kiki Hilmer and Sophomore Emily Maresh split time in net for the Northville shutout. 

Northville moved to 13-3-2; South Lyon East moved to 5-8-3.

The next game is 7 p.m. Monday at Northville High School against Canton High School for the Kensington Conference cross-over game.
