Northville Grads Headed to NCAA Championship Football Game

Jon Alandt and Greg Hasse are part of Wayne State University's 'Cinderella' team, which is competing in its first national football championship game on Saturday.

Former students Jon Alandt and Greg Hasse will be among the Wayne State University Warriors headed to their first football national championship game next weekend against Pittsburg State.

Alandt is a wide receiver on the team and Hasse is a defensive end for WSU's football team. The Division II championship game will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Florence, AL. It will be broadcast live on ESPN2.

The Warriors' first bid for a national title has attracted the attention of everyone from students and alumni to sportswriters at The New York Times. The newspaper is calling the Warriors (12-3 overall) a "Cinderella" team.

Alandt, son of Jonathon and Jody Alandt, is a freshman at WSU and a 2011 graduate of Northville High School who earned two varsity letters, according to WSU's website.

Hasse, son of Ken and Jane Hasse, is a junior and liberal arts and sciences major at WSU. He is a 2008 graduate of Northville High School and earned three varsity letters while in Northville. Hasse "started 31 consecutive games on the defensive line before missing the final two games of the 2011 campaign with an injury," according to WSU's website.

Wayne State fans and alumni wishing to purchase tickets for Saturday's game are requested to go through the North Alabama ticket office, according to information posted on the Wayne State athletics website.  To order your seats online click here. All seats are reserved and priced at $20.
