Northville Wrestlers Successful at Plymouth Invitational

Fifteen team members return home with medals from the competition.

The Northville Youth Wrestling Club took the Plymouth Canton Invitational Tournament by storm, as 19 youth wrestlers rode home with 15 hard-fought medals.

First place was the only place for two eighth-graders, Brendan Boyd and Trevor Morgan. wrestlers joined them, as first-grader Mason Stewart and fifth-grader Jeff Varner were also undefeated on the mat. Ridgewood fourth-grader, Jacob Bisdorf won his first gold medal, defeating four opponents, including one pin.

A South Lyon parent was overheard asking, “When did Northville become so good?” during the finals as three Mustangs took second place.

Aidan Hayek is a fourth-grader at Thornton Creek. Alex Jones is a fifth-grader at and Dominic Sacca is in eighth grade at Our Lady of Sorrows.

Winning a final match for third place, were third-grader, Adam Harp and Winchester fifth-grader, Michael Merritt.

Fourth Place honors were earned by brothers, fifth-grader, Parker and first-grader, Boden Dietrich of Silver Springs. Boden’s first grade classmate, Nathan Jones also placed fourth. Thornton Creek students, third-grader, Andrew Hayek and fifth-grader Nick Lauderback wrestled hard for fourth place.

Nick was competing in the Michigan Youth Wrestling Association for the first time. Awaiting his medal, his dad, Dennis Lauderback said, “He wrestled hard and it was very exciting. We’re proud of him.”

Additional participants at the Plymouth Tournament included Jake Merritt a Winchester second-grader and two Silver Springs students, first-grader, Mason Jennings and fifth-grader, Grant Hood.

The Mustangs will travel Downriver and compete March 4 at one last regular season tournament before the MYWAY Regional Championship at Tecumseh on March 11. A team banquet will celebrate an outstanding season of competition on March 15. Youth wrestling will begin again in November for next year.
