Stabenow Named Grand Marshal of Great Lakes State Fair

The revamped Michigan state fair takes place Labor Day weekend.

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow has been named grand marshal for the Great Lakes State Fair, taking place at Novi's in Aug. 31-Sept. 3

“Senator Stabenow is a great champion for agriculture in Michigan whether she is working tirelessly to get Farm Bill legislation passed in Congress or advancing research efforts," said Kent Roberts, vice chairman of the Great Lakes State Fair Board, in a press release. "With agriculture being such a major focus of the fair, we see her involvement as a perfect fit."

The timing for Stabenow’s placement as grand marshal comes during a week in which she is seeking passage of the Senate Farm Bill in the House of Representatives.

The state fair will feature a range of agriculture exhibits, including samples of home grown fruits, vegetables, grains and herbs. Attendees will also have an opportunity to purchase food that is created from Michigan crops including jellies, jams, breads, muffins, cakes and pies.
