The 1st round of the KLAA Playoffs got rolling Tuesday as the Northville
Girls Basketball team who finished 2nd in the Central division hosted Plymouth
which finished as the 3rd place team in the South division. These two teams
faced each other in early December in a cross-over game that Northville won in
the final seconds 42-40. Northville shot the ball well in the 1st quarter
making more than half of their baskets for the game (9) in the opening
quarter to get things started and create a cushion. The Mustangs finished with
17 made buckets on the night. Northville, although facing a big Wildcat team,
out rebounded Plymouth 24-18 and had a season high 13 offensive rebounds which propelled the Mustangs to the hot start. Northville's defense was just as good as the offense in the 1st half as the held Plymouth in check. With the Mustangs controlling a 16 point lead to start the 2nd half, Plymouth increased it's
pressure and force Northville to turn the ball over on it's first three
possessions where the Wildcats converted to shrink the lead down to nine.
Plymouth couldn't get any closer as the Mustangs milked the clock in 4th quarter
and went 9-14 from the foul line to ice the game.
That was one of our best halves of basketball we played all year. We shot
the ball real well and kind of shell shocked them. We got a jump on them
early. And our defense was good, creating some pressure and making sure we had their best kids covered. When we did miss, our girls went after and chased the ball down to give us second and third looks. That's what I'm most proud of.
Plymouth made a little run in the third quarter but our girls never panicked.
Northville 13-4 overall, 7-3 division will play at #5 state ranked John
Glenn, winners of the south division Thursday in the conference
semi-finals.
