The Northville Mustangs Girl's Basketball team wrapped up their regular season hosting Walled Lake Western. The Warriors came into the game with a 12-7 record and finished tied for 2nd in the KLAA North division. It was a slow start as each team was plagued by turnovers early. Northville's defense held the Warriors scoreless in the first quarter while leading wire to wire. The usually consistent shooting Mustangs were cold early but Jr. Gabby Mencotti scored all 12 of her points in the 1st half to pace the Mustangs. The team's shooting got better in the 2nd half as Jr. Heather Randall scored all 10 of her points in the final two quarters and the team finished making 17-42 FG (40%) on the night. While the Mustangs continued to shoot better in the 2nd half Western couldn't find their rhythm as they went just 7-45 FG (16%). Western tried to turn up the heat defensively in the 2nd half and their pressure was good enough to create some turnovers but Northville kept calm and controlled their offense to pull away. The win is Northville's 15th of the season, tying their number of wins from last year. The Mustangs finish the season with a 10-1 record at home.
I thought the girls challenged just about every shot Western put up and rebounded really well. They didn't get many second chances. We didn't shoot
the ball particularly well but still found a way to score and keep them from making things interesting. Your going to have nights were you struggle some and
shots are not falling so you need to find other ways to win. Our defense kept us in the game until we could get our offense going.
Northville 15-5 overall, 7-3 division will play Novi on Wednesday in the
MHSAA District semi-finals hosted by Canton.
