WCC Offers Innovative IT Career Program

Washtenaw Community College
IT Career Readiness Program Starts May 5

Innovative 30-HOUR program helps participants decide how to pursue a career in the rapidly growing field of information technology

Washtenaw Community College, as part of its IGNITE [Intentionally Growing New Information Technology Employees In Michigan] information technology training grant, is offering an IT Career Readiness program for individuals considering  an information technology career.

This program explores a variety of in demand IT jobs, and the technical skills required.  Participants will complete an assessment of their entry level skills to discover what additional training they would need to be successful in their chosen field. The course also examines day-to-day work life, and the interpersonal and team skills and attributes that have become highly valued in the information technology industry.

The 30-hour program begins May 5 at a cost of $650. Grant funding may be available to those who qualify. The classes will be held on Monday evenings, from 7 to 9 p.m., last until June 8 and be comprised of a combination of on-campus classes and online coursework.

“We consistently hear from employers that they are looking for employees with strong computer skills,” said Charles Lafayette, IGNITE Grant program manager. “This IT Career Readiness program allows us to understand a student’s knowledge level and then customize a program to provide the additional skills they need to set them on the right path for a career in information technology.”
