Beer-Butt Chicken? Michigan Beer Cicerone Has a Sweeter Idea

Plus, more foodie news from around the Patch network.

If your cooking-with-beer repertoire is limited to beer-butt chicken, the beer experts at Orion Township-based Powers Distributing have arrived just in time  to save your holiday buffet table from becoming humdrum.

Dat-ta-da-da!

Here’s a recipe for Miller Lite Glaze from Powers Distributing certified cicerone Robert Vedder that lets you put the taste of beer on the chicken instead of inside it:

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 can beer Miller Lite

Add the Miller Lite to the above ingredients to make a smooth paste, then apply to pre-cooked meat, such as ham or turkey, and heat until it is well glazed.

Presto! It’s super simple, a gift in itself when the calendar’s crowded holiday activities. And because it’s made with Miller Lite (96 calories, 3.2 grams carbohydrates per 12-ounce  can), this glaze is a healthier alternative than some other beer-based glazes, Vedder says.
