Forty of the elementary school's students participated.
- Submitted by Karen Chapel Amerman Elementary’s Academic Games team won multiple State Championship titles at the State Tournament this March, qualifying the team for the first time ever to compete in Nationals. Forty Amerman students traveled to Grand Rapids with hundreds of other students across Michigan to play in teams of five in intense competitions beginning at eight in the morning and finishing with late-night playoffs ending close to midnight. All three Amerman teams of third and fourth graders used their mathematical know-how to beat out all of the 43 other teams to jointly become Co-State Champions in Equations. There are several bills the school district is eyeing in the Michigan legislature.
Northville Public Schools officials say they are grappling with unprecedented cuts to the district budget. A big part of the problem, they said at a community forum Monday night, are the changes coming from Lansing. Some of the legislative and gubernatorial actions the school district is monitoring are:

Rising costs and stagnant revenues are at issue for the district and could create a budget deficit, officials said.
Northville Public Schools could face a deficit sometime in the future, due to changing levels of state funding, the implementation of all-day kindergarten and increasing retirement costs. Still, Superintendent Mary Kay Gallagher assured the more than 25 people in attendance at Monday night's school budget forum that things are much more stable than they were this time last year. According to a Northville school district email, the money would be used for new playground equipment.
Amerman Elementary School is in the running for a $10,000 prize to build a new playground. According to an email sent throughout the Northville Public Schools district, Amerman "has been selected as a finalist in the Bank of Ann Arbor Project Help Community Grant program for a potential grant of $10,000 for new playground equipment. Amerman is working on improvements to their playground due to the necessary removal of outdated equipment that must be replaced. This week's pick is titled 'Striking Hairspray.' "This is the entire 1.5 hours of striking the set of 'Hairspray' distilled down into a helpful one minute video," according to its description. Highlights from Tuesday night's school board meeting.
At its meeting Tuesday night, Northville's school board approved the tenure of six employees on their 2012 anniversary dates. Tenure was approved for the following: Five students were recognized for their Eagle Scout achievement. Their names and projects are listed below: The school board approved the purchase of a used school bus. It is a 2010 Thomas Special Needs Saf-T-Liner C2 school bus purchased for $71,420. Michael Zopf, assistant superintendent of finance and operations, said the bus is being purchased to replace another, which has been retired because of safety concerns. In the meantime, according to district documents, a bus has been leased by the district's transporation provider Durham School Services at a rate of $40 per day.
The lively evening consisted of food, entertainment and dancing.
Bruce Turnbull has attended all 22 of Northville's senior proms, including the one held Wednesday evening at Hillside Middle School. The 92-year-old said he enjoys the food, music but most importantly - the company. "The nice part is seeing all of your old friends, people that you know in town," he said. He added that he is impressed by the work the middle school students put into showing the senior citizens of the community a good time. The evening ended with dancing and music, provided by the Northville High School Jazz Ensemble.

Kathryn Anderson of Northville has earned a GPA of 3.75 or better at Marietta College in Ohio.
Kathryn Anderson of Northville has been named to the Dean's List at Marietta College in Ohio. "Any full-time Marietta College student completing at least 15 credit hours with a grade point average of 3.75 or better in a given semester is recognized as a Dean's High Honors List student for that semester," according to a press release. Board member Anita Bartschat's husband may be relocated to Germany for work.
At the end of Northville's school board meeting on Tuesday night, board member Anita Bartschat shared with the community that she may be relocating in the summer to Germany. Bartchat said that her husband may be relocated for work in July. She was elected to her first term on the school board in November 2011. "This is one thing I would truly regret giving up," Bartschat said. She said she would know for certain by the end of this month if she will in fact relocate. If Bartschat were to resign her position, the board would appoint an interim member to her seat. Then in November, the spot would be available in the general election.
