Northville Girls Basketball Game Benefits American Cancer Society

The Mustangs played against Livonia Stevenson and won 42-28.

—Submitted by Coach Todd Gudith Northville Girls Basketball hosted their annual Coaches vs. Cancer game Tuesday night. As part of a national program with the American Cancer Society and the National Basketball Coaches Association, the teams played the game with a pink basketball while the coaching staff wore tennis shoes with their game attire to raise awareness of the disease. The girls sold Wall of Hope cards with all proceeds being donated to the American Cancer Society.   Stevenson came out with a press and active half court zone defense to try to get after the Mustangs. Northville had no issue with press and found plenty of shot opportunities early as Brittany Berehulka buried two 3-point shots in the quarter along with three baskets …

Northville Township Cop Seeks Support Raising Money for American Cancer Society

Police officer Jim Beamish will run in a marathon to benefit the American Cancer Society on Oct. 21.

Because of the impact cancer has had on the lives of his friends and family, Northville Township police officer James Beamish is fund-raising to fight the disease. "As I started doing this, I realized there’s a whole lot of people in my life that I didn’t realize are struggling with cancer," the 45-year-old said. "I'm running in support of and in memory of several people." His sister is a cancer survivor and his wife has lost family members to the disease. He also knows fellow officers affected by cancer. Beamish will run 26 miles for the American Cancer Society's (ACS) DetermiNation team in the Detroit Free Press Talmer Bank Marathon on Oct. 21. Novi and Northville will again be teaming up this weekend for Relay for Life at Ford Field in downtown Northville. Hundreds of residents have raised funds for the American Cancer Society and will now be spending 24 hours at the event, gathering to celebrate survivors, remember those lost to cancer and to fight back against the disease. American Cancer Society Seeks 300,000 Volunteers for New Study

A General Motors video explains more about the study, which focuses on the role lifestyle factors play in preventing or causing cancer.

General Motors has created a video to help promote enrollment in an American Cancer Society (ACS) study with a control group goal of 300,000 people nationwide, to help understand how lifestyle factors play a role in preventing or causing cancer. The Cancer Prevention Study-3 is the largest cancer prevention study thus far, so ACS is working with health systems and corporations in communities nationwide to enlist volunteers who want to take an active role in helping to prevent cancer to join the group.

Northville, Novi Students Team Up for Relay For Life

The event was held over the weekend in Northville.

A rivalry between Northville and Novi high schools has long been a tradition. In recent years, students from the schools have put a new twist on it for a good cause. This past weekend, the students participated in their third annual combined Relay for Life. Nearly 400 teens from the two schools fund-raised for the American Cancer Society (ACS) event. The students collected about $47,000, just $1,000 shy of their goal. Donations can still be made on the Relay For Life website. Northville and Novi students also competed in games throughout the evening. Northville won the Novi-Northville games for the third year in a row.
