Northville Boys Basketball Beats Stevenson Again

The Mustangs won 59-53.

—Submitted by Bob Lasley Earlier this month, the Northville High School boys basketball team was coming off a double-digit loss to Salem when they faced Livonia Stevenson; they came away with 5-point win. Tuesday night the Mustangs were 4-days removed from a buzzer-beating loss to Salem when they once again were matched up with Livonia Stevenson, this time on the Spartans’ home court. The results were the same, as the Mustangs prevailed 59-53. Northville led 7-0 more than halfway through the first period before Stevenson scored, and the quarter ended with the Mustangs leading 11-5. Northville did not shoot well (3-13), but they did grab 10 rebounds. The second quarter saw the Mustangs methodically go on a 9-2 run to increase their lead to …

Northville Girls Basketball Game Benefits American Cancer Society

The Mustangs played against Livonia Stevenson and won 42-28.

—Submitted by Coach Todd Gudith Northville Girls Basketball hosted their annual Coaches vs. Cancer game Tuesday night. As part of a national program with the American Cancer Society and the National Basketball Coaches Association, the teams played the game with a pink basketball while the coaching staff wore tennis shoes with their game attire to raise awareness of the disease. The girls sold Wall of Hope cards with all proceeds being donated to the American Cancer Society.   Stevenson came out with a press and active half court zone defense to try to get after the Mustangs. Northville had no issue with press and found plenty of shot opportunities early as Brittany Berehulka buried two 3-point shots in the quarter along with three baskets …

Northville Boys Basketball Loses to Salem at Last Second

The Mustangs also honored their seniors Friday night.

—Submitted by Bob Lasley Friday night the Northville High School gym was the place to be. Prior to warmups, the five seniors and their families were recognized during Senior Appreciation night. Several video cameras recorded the game action for replay on the local Xfinity cable system. And on the court the Mustangs were hosting the Central Division leading Salem Rocks, hopeful of revenge for their lopsided loss earlier this month. For the better part of 31 min, 21 sec the game went about as well as Northville would have wanted. However, with approximately 0.2 seconds remaining on the clock, Salem senior Chris Dierker banked in a jump shot for a 57-55 win over Northville. Northville jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first quarter on the …

Northville 6th Grade Girls Basketball Wins Local Tournament

The Wolfpack had a perfect 7-0 record.

Northville Girls Basketball Beats Salem

The Mustangs won 35-17.

—Submitted by Coach Todd Gudith Northville returned to action Friday night, traveling to Salem to start up the second round of division play. The Mustangs, coming off a loss last Friday to South Lyon East, were tied with Salem for second in the KLAA Central Division at 3-2. The Rocks, which had won 4 out of their last 6 games including a 35-31 win on Tuesday in a non-league game against a very good 9-1 Brighton team, looked to pose a challenge for Northville. The smaller but speedy Northville defense was up to the challenge facing a tall Rocks team that boasted several players at six feet. After the first basket scored by Salem, Northville got on the offensive with two 3-point baskets by Kendra Brenner to boast Northville to an early 11-5 …

Northville Girls Basketball Loses to South Lyon East

The Mustangs lost 53-46.

—Submitted by Coach Todd Gudith The Northville Mustangs Girls Basketball team ran into a a determined South Lyon East squad and dropped a 53-46 decision to the Cougars. East, which opened in 2007, had never beaten the Mustangs, but they sure picked a good time to do so and upset Northville's hopes of trying to win the division. East came into the game 5-5 overall and 0-4 in division play while Northville was 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the division, just one game back of division leader Novi.  East came out hot right out of the gate as sophomore Gabby Bird outscored the entire Mustang team with 11 points in the 1st quarter as East took a 15-10 lead at the end of one quarter of play. Northville's defense would step up in the 2nd quarter allowing…

Northville Boys Basketball Now 5-1 at Home

The Mustangs won 50-30 against South Lyon East on Friday.

—Submitted by Bob Lasley Home sweet home. Friday night the Northville boys hoops team ran their home record to 5-1 with a resounding 50-30 win over South Lyon East. The Cougars scored quickly to go up 2-0, but they did not score another field goal in the first quarter, which ended with the Mustangs leading 12-4. Northville used a very effective half-court zone trap defense which forced the Cougars into multiple turnovers, and had the Mustangs converted more effectively on their 7 offensive rebounds the margin would have been greater. Northville heated up in the second quarter with better shooting from the field and 6-7 free throws to bolt out to a 29-10 lead at halftime. Andrew Meacham led Northville with 10 first half points and Stewart …

Northville Girls Basketball Gets Win Against South Lyon

The Mustangs won 44-29.

—Submitted by Coach Todd Gudith The Northville Mustangs returned home Tuesday night for a division game against South Lyon after suffering a tough loss on Friday to arch-rival Novi.  Both teams entered the game with identical records (7-2 overall, 2-1 division).  Northville's pressure was the story early, making it difficult for the Lions to move the ball up the floor. The Mustangs failed to convert on a number of early South Lyon turnovers. Northville got on track late in the 1st quarter to pull out a 12-4 lead.  In the 2nd quarter, South Lyon got warmed up in the half court as they hit three 3-pointers and six out of their 12 total baskets to get within one point at 20-19 late in the half. Northville would stage a late rally on a triple …
