Is Black Friday Shopping For You?

When people start lining up late Thanksgiving night to take advantage of door-buster deals in the wee hours Friday morning, will you be there?

Love it or hate it, Black Friday is the super bowl of shopping. And with its arrival only mere days away, Novi and Northville are abuzz with people talking about the potential savings stores big and small have to offer. Some people create their own Black Friday “game plans” on what stores to hit and when after they've poured over the announced bargains various retailers have to offer. There are those so keen on saving they set alarms to wake them up in the wee hours of the night. These folks line up early and some even camp out all night to be able to scoop up the deals they’re after. Are you one of those shoppers? What is your Black Friday game plan? Vote in the poll below and tell us more in the comments.

Have You Shopped on Your Mobile Device?

Black Friday spending reached all-time levels this year, but the biggest jump was in 'couch commerce.' Have you shopped mobile this year?

Spending reached all-time Black Friday highs this weekend as a record 226 million shoppers jumped into holiday purchases – many of them using mobile devices to do so. The average holiday shopper spent $398.62 Black Friday and Saturday, according to a National Retail Federation survey. With deals abounding and access to stores earlier than ever before, Black Friday brings out both early birds and night owls

With barely enough time to shake off a turkey coma, hundreds of area residents lined up outside big box retailers as early as Thanksgiving afternoon to partake in the tradition of Black Friday. Shoppers, who lined up 100 and 200-deep in front of retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Kohl’s before the stores opened their doors at midnight, ran the gamut of those looking for random deals to others who had mapped out elaborate shopping strategies. Black Friday is widely regarded as the biggest shopping day of the year. Karen Howe of Northville was wrapped in a blanket outside of Office Depot at Haggerty and Six Mile Road in Northville in the hopes of snagging a $350 Hewlett Packard laptop. “My daughter’s computer needs to be repaired and it’s …

Novi Road Reopens to Traffic

After more than seven months of construction, the new bridge opened Wednesday.

Novi Road between 10 Mile Road and Grand River Avenue in Novi has reopened to traffic just in time for the holidays. The $25 million project included building a bridge over the railroad tracks so traffic could flow without being disrupted by trains. The road was also expanded to five lanes, and walking paths were added on both sides. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday afternoon, Novi Mayor Bob Gatt thanked Novi residents, visitors and businesses for their patience during the construction. "For years, we've called this project the Novi Road Link, and the meaning became apparent this year while the roadway was under construction," Gatt said. "Not only is it a major link between the north and south ends of our city, it's also an …
